A piece of artillery that uses gunpowder that was first invented in China. They precede firearms and were used extensivlely by seafaring vessels. They can vary in calibre, range, mobility, rate of fire, and angle of fire.

These were used as self-defense. Their range was short and they were frequently used alongside a sword or cutlass. Their sizes ranged from 6 inches to 16 inches. A high point of design for these pistols was the British dueling pistol. It was super reliable, while also being water resistant and very accurate.

A firearm that was muzzle-loaded with a short, large calibre barrel, which is flared at the muzzle and frequently throughout the entire bore. It con be considered and early form of a shortgun. In pistol form it was known as a Dragon, which later went on to evolve into the term Dragoon.

A 17th century descendant of a weapon from a previous era known as a falchion. Falchion is a 16th century French word for a machete like blade. A naval side-arm, its popularity was due to it being robust enough to hack through heavy ropes, canvas, and wood. But, it was short enough to use in relatively close quarters, suash as during boarding actions, in rigging, or below decks.
